THIS YEAR EDOC CELEBRATES THE TENTH EDITION

This year on may and june the EDOC Film Festival will celebrate ten years of creating a platform for ecuadorian documentarist to present their work and to the public to enjoy independent cinema of the world. This will be a very special edition, with at least 100 documentaries coming from more than 20 countries, there will be 10 new ecuadorian films, and many international guest coming to present their work. The festival will be held in Quito from May 12 until the 22, and then it will continue to other cities of Ecuador such us Guayaquil, Ibarra, Santo Domingo, Otavalo and Portoviejo.

ABUELOS IS NOMINATED AT IDFA

From 17 to November 28 is taking place the largest documentary film festival in the world, the IDFA, in Holland. Two Ecuadorians filmmakers are present with their work: Carla Valencia Dávila, with Abuelos, the film that won the Audience Award in EDOC9, and the short film Streets, by Victor Carrera, the favourite Ecuadorian short of the Audience. A few days before the end of the festival, the nominations were announced yesterday. Abuelos has is one of the three films shortlisted for the First Appearance Award. The Award ceremony will take place tomorrow and the results will be announced.

‘ABUELOS’ AND ‘STREETS’ SELECTED AT IDFA

Abuelos, by Carla Valencia Dávila, documentary voted as the audience favorite during the ninth edition of the EDOC Festival has been selected in the First Appearance category of IDFA, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, the most important documentary film festival in the world. Alongside Abuelos, also an Ecuadorian short film represents the country in the Dutch festival: Streets by Victor Carrera.

CALL FOR ENTRIES IS NOW OPEN FOR EDOC10

Submissions are now accepted for the 10th anniversary of Encuentros del Otro Cine ‘EDOC’.  The festival is looking for creative documentaries that express the point of view and the artistic intention of their authors. All subjects and film lengths are accepted. The deadline for entries is December, 31.

LATIN SIDE OF THE DOC, WELCOMES PRODUCERS

A four-day co-production and networking Rendezvous event between Latin America and Europe, with a strong North American delegation. DBD / LSD will gather Producers and Decision Makers from both sides of the Atlantic to share their experiences and mutual needs, build up a strong international documentary filmmaking network, and initiate international co-production projects.

SOY HUAO, AT OCHOYMEDIO

The Argentinean documentary Soy Huao, shown at the festival in presence of its director, Juan Baldana, and its producer, Mariana Cecchini, opens this Friday at OchoyMedio cinema, at the following times:

Friday 27, 16h00 & 21h15; Saturday 28, 16h30 & 21h00; Sunday 29, 16h30 & 20h45; Monday 30, 16h00 & 20h15, and Tuesday 31, 17h00 & 20h45.

The life of a huaorani family in Toñampari, province of Pastaza. Without judging it, the filmmaker portrays everyday life and its contradictions.

THREE ECUADORIAN FILMMAKERS COMPETE IN DOCSDF

The documentary film festival of Mexico City, DocsDF, published its official selection for films in competition. The event will take place from October 21 to 31 and will have to Ecuador as guest country.

Three Ecuadorian filmmakers made it to the competition for Best Iberoamerican Documentary: Defensa 1464, by David Rubio; Five ways to Dario, by Darío Aguirre, and Mi Terruño, by Paul Narvaez Sevilla, which competes for the Best Documentary Short. These three films premiered in Ecuador during the last Encuentros del Otro Cine.

Two films shown at EDOC9 in presence of their filmmakers, Soy Huao (Juan Baldana, Argentina) and Notes on the Other (Sergio Oksman, Spain), are also part of the official selection . DocsDF also included in its line-up Eyes Wide Open - Exploring Today’s South America, by Uruguayan filmmaker Gonzalo Arijón, which had its world premiere at the EDOC8, in 2009. Arijón came to the EDOC in 2008 with his previous documentary, Stranded. Congratulations to all!
